Planting & Decorating Regulations
All Cemeteries including the Bohemia Union Cemetery, has rules regarding planting and Decorations. Since we pride ourselves on being a small hometown cemetery, we have always had a liberal policy on this subject. In recent years our cemetery has experienced a tremendous increase in desirability. Because of this, we find it necessary to be more specific in defining what is and is not, allowed to be placed on ones grave.
All these rules can also be found on our website:

First we want you to understand that our cemetery board insists that we offer a serene landscape that is suitable to all religions and ethnic groups. Our landscapers too, deserve a safe work environment, that will not cause harm to them when taking care of our grounds. It is with all this in mind, that we urge you to follow our rules. We ask that all plantings be placed within the designated planting area. This area is in front of the monument placed on your grave. Plantings should not extend beyond the width of the monument. And a 24" distance out from the front of the monument should be adhered to.
Fresh floral bouquets are always welcome and placed in the planting area in front of any monument using "Out of Sight" flush flower vases. Artificial Flowers are permitted, but once their color is faded by the sun, They are to be removed.
Glass Jars, Vases, Statues, Shells, Stuffed Animals, Wooden, Metal or Plastic Crosses, Marble, Wood Chips or Decorative Stone of any type are not permitted. We prefer you to refrain from using fencing around the perimeter of your grave, due to the landscapers inability to properly cut the grass around it. If the grass grows and is not taken care of by the owner, then the landscaper is instructed to remove and discard the fencing.
Solar Lighting fixtures are permitted, but they must be placed in the planting area. The grass should be removed to keep it from getting unsightly.
Shrubs of any kind are not permitted on single graves. Please keep in mind, that back in the early 1900's our cemetery sold plots to the public. These plots have any where from 6-10 graves in them. It is in these areas that you will find small trees and shrubs planted through out our cemetery. All graves sold in the past 20 years are single or double graves. Each grave measures 36" x 96". More plantings are permitted when a double side by side grave is purchased.
We hope that by adhering to these regulations we are able to provide not only those who visit a loved ones grave, but also those seeking a burial place for a loved one, a safe, well maintained, and reverential place for eternal rest.
These rules may be changed anytime by the Bohemia Union Cemetery Board. Please review our website for any of these changes.
